As the demand for homes continues to surge, construction companies are looking for the next big thing to increase supply. They want to build homes faster and cheaper with less work, but still make a profit in the end. This is where 3D printing technology comes into play. Construction companies will be able to use this new technology which would allow them to create houses quicker and more efficiently than they could otherwise do without using these machines. As time goes on, we'll see more and more construction companies adapting this new technology because it will most likely become the norm in construction over time - just as electric cars are gradually replacing gas and diesel vehicles today. It may take some time but we'll see a lot of construction companies taking a hybrid approach: robot and man labor.
I feel we are a couple years (only a couple) out from when robots can build your whole home on their home. Currently, robots can do repetitive tasks like printing panels and putting them on steel framing instantly in a pattern - but they can't do things that require judgment, creativity or emotion. That's where humans come in. Humans are better suited for tasks that robots just aren't capable of doing yet. The 3D printing technology will be able to lay down the foundation first and then go over it with a human touch to make sure it's a perfect fit. Robots are going to play a big role in the future of construction - that's for sure. How exactly will they be implemented though? That remains to be seen.
